How to Transfer Files Without Internet (Hotspot Mode)
One of the most powerful features of Getsmore File Transfer is the ability to send large files between devices without using any mobile data or internet bandwidth. This is perfect for transferring photos from phone to laptop or sharing videos between friends when Wi-Fi is unavailable.
Step-by-Step Guide:
- Create a Hotspot: Turn on the "Wi-Fi Hotspot" on one device (e.g., your phone).
- Connect Device B: Connect the second device (e.g., laptop) to that Hotspot.
- Open Getsmore: Open this page on both devices. (Note: You need to load the page once while online, or use the PWA offline capability).
- Select Manual Mode: Switch to "Manual (Offline)" mode on the tool.
- Exchange Codes: Copy the code from the Sender and paste it into the Receiver, then copy the answer back.
Once connected, files transfer over the local Wi-Fi signal at blazing fast speeds (often 10x faster than Bluetooth) and use zero internet data.

Security Architecture
We prioritize your privacy above all else. Unlike traditional file transfer services that upload your file to a cloud server and then download it to the recipient, Getsmore uses WebRTC (Web Real-Time Communication) technology.
This creates a direct data pipe between Device A and Device B. Files are never uploaded or stored on our servers. The transfer is encrypted end-to-end using DTLS (Datagram Transport Layer Security) protocols, ensuring that no oneโnot even usโcan intercept your files.
About Getsmore Secure File Transfer
Getsmore File Transfer is a free, secure, and instant P2P file sharing tool. It offers two modes: Automatic for easy connection via the internet, and Manual for completely offline transfers on local networks (Hotspot). Both modes use secure WebRTC technology to ensure your data never touches a server.
How to Use
- Select Mode: Choose "Automatic" for internet connection or "Manual" for offline hotspot sharing.
- Connect: In Automatic mode, share your ID. In Manual mode, select "Start" on one device and "Join" on the other, then exchange the codes.
- Send: Once connected, the file upload area will appear. Select files to transfer securely.
File Transfer FAQs
Absolutely not. We use a decentralized P2P architecture. In Automatic mode, a lightweight signaling server helps the devices find each other using a 6-digit code, but the actual file data flows directly between devices. In Manual mode, even the signaling is done by you, ensuring 100% offline privacy.
Yes, in most cases. It works best on the same Wi-Fi, but can also work across different networks depending on your firewall settings.
There is no strict limit enforced by us. However, since the transfer happens in the browser, very large files (over 2GB) might cause the browser to crash on mobile devices with low RAM. For best results with huge files, use a PC.
No installation is required! Getsmore works directly in your web browser (Chrome, Safari, Edge, Firefox) on Android, iOS, Windows, and Mac.
Yes. Getsmore is fully cross-platform. You can send files from Android to iPhone, PC to Mobile, or Mac to Tablet seamlessly.
Transfers can fail if a device goes to sleep, the screen turns off, or the network connection drops. Please keep the browser tab open and active on both devices until the transfer is complete.
Currently, you can select multiple files at once. To send an entire folder structure, we recommend compressing (zipping) the folder first before sending.
